CPPSG focuses on methadone in new Bank Holiday resource

The Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group has released two resources aimed at supporting community pharmacy teams with opioid treatment programmes.

“Focus on Methadone” - the second in its ‘Focus on…’video series - aims to support safe and effective practice within community pharmacy from a patient safety perspective. The video provides practical hints and tips to support the safe supply of methadone through an opioid treatment programme.

The group has also created a Bank Holiday checklist to aid pharmacy teams before, during and after Bank Holidays. The checklist and video is available, along with the CPPSG’s other patient safety resources, via the CPPSG Resource Hub.

Martin Sadr-Kazemi, chair of the CPPSG and deputy superintendent pharmacist at Rowlands, said: “As we near the Easter period with multiple public holidays and pharmacy opening times different to usual, it is important that pharmacy teams plan ahead. We hope this latest video and the Bank Holiday checklist helps to support community pharmacy teams to continue to safely deliver opioid treatment programmes to their clients”.

The CPPSG provides a forum for large community pharmacy businesses (50+ branches), as well as organisations representing independent pharmacies and small multiples, to openly share and learn from each other when things go wrong, as well as from other sectors and industries.
