The overall antimicrobial resistance burden in England increased by 13.1% between 2019 and 2024, with 9.3% of that rise happening since 2023. Enterobacterales accounted for 85.1% of the antimicrobial resistance burden in 2024; pathogens with the largest increase in antimicrobial resistance burden rates between 2019–2024 were Klebsiella pneumoniae (up 39.9%) and Staphylococcus aureus (up 33%).9
