Numark has welcomed the launch of a national self-assessment system that provides pharmacists and technicians with evidence of their competency to deliver specific services.
€This is a great tool, universal to all pharmacists and technicians, which can be used to identify gaps in competency,€ said Mimi Lau, Numark's director of pharmacy services. €As individuals undertake to only deliver a service once they have declared themselves competent, it empowers them to seek additional training specific to them when they have a need.€
The Declaration of Competence (DoC) system, developed by the Community Pharmacy Competence Group (CPCG), is supported for use across England by Health Education England and endorsed by NHS England and Public Health England. It allows pharmacists and technicians to reflect on the learning and training they have completed and the practice experience they have gained.
Once confident that they meet the competencies within the framework they can print out and sign their own personal declaration statement, which can be used as evidence to assure commissioners and employers that they have worked through the process. ۬۬
Mimi Lau: "A great tool"
Ms Lau called for all local commissioners to adopt this system rather than operate under the old €archaic€ accreditation arrangements used by primary care trusts. €It is the only way they can be assured that the pharmacy professional is competent and meets the service requirements.€
