Treatment for ED
Oral phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors are the first-line drug treatment for ED.3
What are PDE5 inhibitors?3
These medicines increase blood flow to the penis to augment the normal physiological response to sexual stimulation. They do not initiate an erection – to be effective, sexual stimulation is required. This class of medicines includes tadalafil, sildenafil, avanafil and vardenafil. They are all licensed for the treatment of ED in men aged 18 years and over and are available on prescription. Tadalafil 10mg and sildenafil 50mg are also available OTC from pharmacies in the UK.
What is tadalafil?
Tadalafil was approved as a prescription-only medicine in the EU in 2002.12 It is the only long-acting PDE5 inhibitor available; the others, including sildenafil, are all short-acting.3
Introducing AVARANTE
AVARANTE contains 10mg tadalafil.13
It is available without prescription when certain pharmacy supply criteria are met, giving men with ED access to a well-established medicine to use as their usual treatment, or in circumstances when a long-acting option is preferred.6

AVARANTE can improve a person's erectile function, leading to improvements in sexual confidence.14 It may also have other benefits, including:
Significant improvements in sexual satisfaction for men and their partners15,16
Improvements in the man’s confidence, self-esteem and overall relationship14,16,17
Improving their sexual quality of life9,10
