Adults and children aged 12 years and over:
Remove cap
Cut off tip of tube on score mark
With a clean finger or swab apply a pea-sized amount of the gel into the tooth cavity
Use up to 4 times daily
Orajel should NOT be used continuously. If toothache persists, customers should consult their dentist.
Customers should STOP using Orajel and consult their doctor or dentist immediately if any of the following occur:
An allergic reaction (burning, stinging, itching, redness, rash and/or swelling)
Skin irritation
Methaemoglobinaemia (difficulty converting a component of blood called methaemoglobin to haemoglobin).
Orajel is intended for short-term use until a dentist can be consulted.
Customers should be advised NOT to exceed the recommended dose.
DO NOT use if there is a known sensitivity to benzocaine or any of the other ingredients
DO NOT use if a customer is suspected to have methaemoglobinaemia, or if there is a family history of methaemoglobinaemia
Not for use in children below the age of 12 years
May cause local skin reaction
Avoid drinking hot liquids whilst using Orajel.
In a few cases, application of benzocaine on skin and mucous membranes has resulted in hypersensitivity reactions (burning, stinging, pruritis, erythema, rash and oedema), contact dermatitis and methaemoglobinaemia.
If symptoms persist, are severe, or are accompanied by fever, headache, breathlessness, nausea and vomiting, customers should consult a doctor.
There is no clinical data available on the use of Orajel during pregnancy and lactation. However, it has been in wide use for many years without apparent ill consequences.
