John Smith appointed PAGB chief exec

John Smith has been appointed as chief executive of the Proprietary Association of Great Britain. Mr Smith was previously general manager at Pfizer Consumer Healthcare.

Helen Darracott has been promoted to deputy chief executive. Ms Darracott has been with the PAGB for more than 12 years as director of legal and regulatory affairs and is responsible for the Association's core services and regulatory function.

Outgoing chief executive Matthew Speers has led the PAGB through a strategic review and has put a new operating framework in place over the past 18 months, and is leaving to pursue other interests and allow his successors to take the organisation forward.

Mr Smith (left) said: €I am delighted to be joining PAGB. With the NHS facing unprecedented financial challenges, we need, more than ever, to support and empower people to self care. I look forward to building on the work Matthew has done to further the self care agenda and work with Government and regulators to ensure that people are at the heart of regulatory decisions.€
