Drug reaction reporting from community pharmacy falls

The number of reports from community pharmacists in the UK to the yellow card reporting system about suspected adverse drug reactions fell by 14% between 2018 and 2017.

According to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), there were 226 fewer reports by pharmacists last year than on the previous 12 month, although a decrease in reporting was not only seen in community pharmacy.

There were 280 and 161 fewer reports from GPs and hospital doctors respectively during that period. That despite the MHRA receiving double the number of reports from healthcare professionals in 2017 compared with 2009.
