Inflammation can affect tendons, ligaments and cartilage, along with other tissue and organs such as the skin, muscles, lungs, kidney and heart. Conditions include lupus, either as discoid lupus affecting the skin, or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), affecting the skin, joints and internal organs. Scleroderma or systemic sclerosis involves skin hardening, joint and muscle pain or stiffness, and circulatory problems such as Raynaud's phenomenon.7,14
