The most common non-surgical cosmetics procedures that respondents reported undergoing, based on 7,856 DHSC consultation responses, were:1

·     - dermal filler (70%)

·     - Botox (67%)

·     - skin boosters (11%)

·     - microneedling (11%)

·     - anti-wrinkle treatment (9%)

·     - chemical peels (9%)

The most common complications reported by respondents (n=2,919) included:1

·     - lumpiness

·     - swelling

·     - bruising

·     - (filler) migration

·     - pain

·     - infection

·     - scars

·     - vascular occlusion

Several respondents described having to have fillers dissolved to manage complications that had arisen from the original filler placement procedure. Risks with no-needle fillers include vascular occlusion and tissue damage.1

Botulinum toxin and fillers can be administered by registered medical practitioners or by regulated health professional, including pharmacists, nurses and dentists, acting in accordance with the directions of a registered medical practitioner.7
