Drivers are not required to notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) if they have OHT but must notify the DVLA if they have glaucoma that affects both eyes. If the condition only affects one eye, drivers only have to inform the DVLA if they:9,28

  • ·       do not meet the visual standards for driving; or

  • ·       have been told they may not meet the visual standards for driving by a GP, optician or eye specialist.

NHS sight tests are available free to children and people aged 60 and over. Free eye tests are also available for people who:30

  • ·       have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma;

  • ·       are 40 or over and their mother, father, sibling or child has been diagnosed with glaucoma;

  • ·       have been advised by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) that they are at risk of glaucoma;

  • ·       are registered as partially sighted or blind.
