CPD module: Depression

We review the upcoming revised NICE guidelines for treating and managing depression in adults.

·       NHS policy around depression, with an emphasis on psychological/talking therapies
·       how the upcoming revised NICE guideline on depression relates to the 2009 NICE guideline CG90
·       how a conversation can be opened when depression is suspected and what the assessment should cover
·       aspects to consider around risk and what bearing on treatment options this may have
·       the proposed new categorisation of depression as ‘less severe’ or ‘more severe’
·       differences in the 2009 and 2022 guidelines with regards to selecting treatment options
·       the ranking of treatment options by clinical and cost effectiveness
·       the significance of the patient’s wishes and experiences in the choice of treatment
·       NICE recommendations and evaluation of antidepressant medications
