ADHD can have many negative impacts, including on educational, occupational and social functioning. It can affect health, wellbeing, social integration and quality of life for individual and their families.4

Impact severity can vary considerably and can depend on the setting or situation. Symptoms and impact can also change over time and impairment may be reduced by factors such as modifying the school curriculum or the choice of employment.1

Complications of ADHD include:6

·       - poor self-esteem;

·       - depression and anxiety;

·       - eating disorders;

·       - sleep disorders;

·       - risky, impulsive behaviour;

·       - increased risk of accidents and injury eg when driving;

·       - difficulties in relationships and social interactions;

·       - job instability.

Neurodevelopmental conditions are associated with an increased risk of loss of life. People with ADHD are over-represented in the criminal justice system both as victims and perpetrators.4
