Confusing drug names

The MHRA has highlighted Yellow Card reports of harm following confusion between the drugs listed below.

  • Clobazam (for anxiety) and Clonazepam (antiepileptic)
  • Atenolol (beta blocker) and Amlodipine (calcium channel blocker)
  • Propranolol (beta blocker) and Prednisolone (corticosteroid)
  • Risperidone (antipsychotic) and Ropinirole (dopamine agonist)
  • Sulfadiazine (antibiotic) and Sulfasalazine (DMARD)
  • Amlodipine (hypertension) and Nimodipine (subarachnoid haemorrhage)

Suspected adverse drug reactions, including those arising from medication errors, should be reported on a Yellow Card.
