The MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner visited Sharmans Pharmacy in Northwood in November to hear how the business had used the new allowance to take on a second pharmacist. Employing new pharmacist Benedicta Gotah (pictured giving Mr Hurd his vaccination) has allowed the pharmacy to deliver more services, including 500 vaccinations in eight weeks.
Mr Hurd said: €The owners of Sharmans were quite clear. The new Employment Allowance had been the nudge they needed to offer a new job. I got the point, in this case literally.€
The Employment Allowance takes up to £2,000 off employers' National Insurance bills, so that a business can hire someone on £22,400 a year, or four full-time minimum wage earners, without paying any employer NI contributions.
