Asda is offering its reward card customers a £2 “bonus” if they present at one of the chain’s pharmacies after being bitten by an insect.
The offer, which runs until June 21, is being promoted on social media channels and several price deal sites, including Hot UK Deals and Magic Freebies.
The offer states: “If you’ve been bitten by an insect, visit an Asda pharmacy and have a conversation with our pharmacist about your symptoms and treatment options.
“You’ll receive £2 in your Cashpot for seeking advice about your insect bite. No purchase required.”
Dr Steve Taylor, a lead spokesperson for GPs at the Doctors Association UK, raised concerns the offer acts as an “inducement” to patients to “get you in their pharmacies” and use the Pharmacy First infected insect bite pathway.
Speaking to P3pharmacy, an Asda spokesperson rejected criticisms of the offer, stating: “Customers are already being bitten and are shopping within our stores.
“We want them to have a conversation with us to best understand what advice and treatments they require.
“There is no purchase necessary to receive this money and the funding for it is provided solely by Asda.”
In 2025, the supermarket chain offered 6,000 patients private flu vaccinations at a purchase price of 60p.
