Boots rolls out home-based health checks

Boots has begun rolling out health checks to allow people to monitor and manage their health from their own homes.

The pharmacy chain has partnered with online diagnostics service Medichecks to provide 10 tests including vitamin D, cholesterol, diabetes, testosterone, vitamin B12, iron deficiency, cortisol (stress), tiredness and fatigue, thyroid and a health and lifestyle check.

The patient orders the test kit online at Boots.com, activates it on Medichecks.com, collects eight to 10 drops of blood in a small tube provided or provides a saliva sample before posting the sample to what Boots described as a “UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service)-accredited pathology laboratory” in a prepaid envelope.

Boots said the test results are “interpreted by a qualified Medichecks doctor.”

The patient can see their results on their personal online dashboard as well as recommendations made by the Medichecks doctor who might offer lifestyle advice or signpost the individual to their GP if concerns are flagged.

Richard Bradley, pharmacy director at Boots UK, said: “Increasingly, customers want information to help them proactively manage their health. By offering Medichecks online, we’re helping to increase accessibility to specialist testing services, complementing the testing available through the NHS and helping people feel in control of their health.”
