Numark delivers cutting edge IT solutions

Numark has boosted its Assist PMR solution, in conjunction with IT partner Rx Systems, with the addition of an app that allows patients to order repeat prescriptions, and a connection to GP systems that allows pharmacists to view elements of patient records as well as electronically order repeat prescriptions.

The My Local Pharmacy app is free to download using Apple or Android devices and allows patients to request repeat medication at any time of day from surgeries using EMIS software via their nominated pharmacy. It also allows them to set up medication reminders, access healthcare information and receive promotional offers from Numark and their local pharmacy. The patient's EPS nomination is confirmed with each repeat request. Free posters and leaflets promoting the service are available to Assist members.

The new Pharmacy Access element of the Assist package has two components:

€¢ Medicines Manager allows pharmacies to electronically transmit repeat prescription requests, saving the pharmacy up to 15 hours per week

€¢ GP Record Viewer allows pharmacists to view certain elements of patients' health records, including medication, allergies and biological values such as blood pressure, INR readings and HbA1c levels.

Pharmacy Access is initially only available to pharmacies in England and links together Rx System's ProScript system in the pharmacy with an EMIS Web system at the GP surgery. GPs must give pharmacists permission to enable some or all of these links. Patients must also give written consent for these services.

Patients who have nominated a pharmacy for EPS Release 2 will be able to opt into the service, which allows the pharmacy to order repeatable items directly from EMIS Web. The GP practice can approve or reject the request and send the relevant electronic prescription to the pharmacy via the NHS spine.

Jignesh Patel, of Rohpharm Pharmacy in Plaistow, who has been running Medicines Manager as a pilot for over 12 months, described it as €a fantastic and long awaited solution to GP/pharmacy interoperability, where the patient, surgery and pharmacy teams all benefit€.
