Pharmacist struck off for breaching restraining order, deflating ex’s tyres

A Swansea community pharmacist who repeatedly breached a restraining order barring him from contacting an ex-partner and “deliberately deflated” her car tyres has been struck off the register.

Amrik Singh Virdee was removed from the register following a two-day fitness to practise hearing earlier this month, having been convicted in March 2024 of eight counts of breaching a restraining order and received a suspended sentence as well as a new restraining order being imposed indefinitely.

These breaches included:

  • Visiting his ex-partner’s address on February 18, 2024 and shouting through her letterbox
  • Phoning her at work the next day and saying ‘See what I did’; in reference to deflating two of her car tyres
  • Visiting his ex-partner’s address again on February 28 and March 9 2024; on the latter date Mr Virdee spoke to his son through the letterbox
  • Phoning her on numerous occasions, including trying to contact her at work and on March 12, 2024 calling her 38 times.

During his police interview, when asked if he understood the terms of the restraining order, he said ‘Fuck the restraining order’.

When asked how he felt about his actions, he replied: ‘Marvellous.’

The sentencing judge at Swansea Crown Court told Mr Virdee that after adhering to the restraining order for five years he had “completely lost [his] self control” and inflicted “total misery” upon his ex-partner, as well as causing his son emotional harm.

The restraining order was first put in place in August 2018 after Mr Virdee physically assaulted his then partner. His 2019 conviction for that offence led to him being suspended for nine months by the GPhC.

Mr Virdee also received a warning from the regulator in 2017 over his “aggressive behaviour towards a patient”.

The FtP committee identified some mitigating factors, such as the fact Mr Virdee pleaded guilty to all charges against him and self-referred to the regulator following his 2024 conviction, as well as his engagement with anger management training as part of his mandatory rehabilitation programme.

It also took into account his reflective statement in which he said he was “deeply sorry” for the impact his “selfish behaviour” has had on his son, ex-partner and family.

However, the FtP committee ultimately took the view that Mr Virdee’s behaviour – particularly the “serious and repeated” pattern of his offending conduct – was “fundamentally incompatible with remaining on the register,” and concluded he must be struck off to uphold public confidence in the profession.
