Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has announced that the MHRA has granted marketing authorisation for Maloff Protect (atovaquone 250mg/proguanil 100mg) as a pharmacy only medicine.

The product is an antimalarial for adults 18 years of age and over, providing equivalent protection to prescription-only medication Malarone, the company says.

The launch of the product “will provide adult travellers with a more convenient, quick and easy way to access the antimalarial medication they need”.

A risk minimisation materials (RMM) pack will be delivered to community pharmacies. Additional RMM materials can sought be emailing maloff@glenmarkpharma.com. Training is available.

The RRP (excluding VAT) is £39 for a 24 tablet pack and £56.16 for a 36 tablet pack).
