Contractors told to take part in oral health campaign

The PSNC has urged contractors to take part in NHS England’s (NHSE) oral health campaign which pharmacy’s negotiator has warned is “mandatory” as part of the community pharmacy contractual framework.

The campaign, which runs from May 13 to June 13, is one of six initiatives agreed between the PSNC and NHSE and is part of National Smile Month.

The PSNC said Colgate-Palmolive will send contractors an A3 ‘Monster teeth’ poster to display in their pharmacies and supporting materials for patients.

In the run-up to the start of the campaign, the PSNC said “all patient-facing staff should read the campaign letter from NHS England which you should have received from your local NHS England team to ensure they are familiar with the campaign and what they are required to do.”

Pharmacy teams have also been advised to familiarise themselves with Public Health England’s children’s oral health guide.

The PSNC said: “If your pharmacy local professional network has shared a list of local dental practices welcoming child patients during the campaign, or there is a local helpline to help patients find appointments, ensure this is available to all patient-facing staff so they can share this information with people visiting the pharmacy.”
