Should pharmacy contract proposals be discussed at LPC conference?

North East London Local Pharmaceutical Committee secretary Hemant Patel recently said levy-paying contractors have a right to see any community pharmacy contractual proposals the PSNC has before it reaches an agreement with the government.

He said proposed community pharmacy contracts used to be presented for discussion and agreement at the annual LPC conference and suggested that changes to GPs' contracts are handled in a more open and transparent way.

PSNC chief executive Simon Dukes responded by saying the negotiator is "made up of members who are there to represent the parts of the community pharmacy sector who elected or nominated them" and added that "the confidentiality of on-going funding negotiations is imposed on us by government and the NHS."
