Each clinical pathway PGD sets out the clinical condition or situation to which the protocol applies, with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The PGDs require familiarity with aspects such as NICE and CKS guidance, NHS Health A to Z (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/), and medicine Summaries of Product Characteristics (https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc).
Relevant chapters in the Green Book (Immunisation against infectious disease - https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/immunisation-against-infectious-disease-the-green-book) give further information about conditions and red flag warnings. There are also links to relevant professional associations and other resources for providing information to the patient.12
Each clinical pathway PGD specifies which medicinal forms, strengths and pack sizes must be supplied for reimbursement, and lists what records must be made. Rather than having to sign Appendix A in each PGD and the PFS protocol, NHS England has issued a master PGD and protocol authorisation sheet (Publication reference: PRN01010) covering all the PGDs on one form.2,6
