There is a lack of COVID€‘19€‘specific evidence on managing many of the common symptoms, such as fatigue, dizziness and cognitive problems (such as ‘brain fog’). However, “support, such as setting achievable goals, should be tailored to the person's needs.”4
Self-management advice includes:
· ways to self-manage symptoms, such as setting realistic goals;
· who to contact if worried about symptoms or for support with self€‘management;
· signposting to support groups, social prescribing, online forums and apps;
· how to get support from other services, including social care, housing, and employment, and financial support advice;
· information about new or continuing symptoms of COVID-19 that the can be shared with family, carers and friends.
With very little evidence on interventions, NG188 makes no specific recommendations about the use of medicines. However, people should be made aware that “it is not known if over-the-counter vitamins and supplements are helpful, harmful or have no effect in the treatment of new or ongoing symptoms of COVID-19.”
Self-management advice could also include recording symptoms to monitor progress as well as using home blood pressure, heart rate and pulse oximetry equipment.
