PSNC warns contractors over drug

The PSNC has warned contractors to be aware that three Sinemet products used to treat some of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease will change in appearance from this month.

Advising that the manufacturer Merck Sharp & Dohme Limited (MSD) is still experiencing “intermittent supply issues which are expected to continue until early June,” the PSNC said three products - Sinemet 10mg/100mg tablets, Sinemet 25mg/250mg tablets and Sinemet Plus 25mg/100mg tablets – will change in shape from round to oval.

“With a view to providing a more consistent supply, MSD have moved manufacturing of three Sinemet products to another manufacturing site. This move means that the appearance of three Sinemet products will change from round to oval,” the PSNC said.

Pharmacy’s negotiator said the products still affected by supply issues include Sinemet 25mg/250mg 10×10 tablets, Sinemet 12.5mg/50mg 9×10 tablets, Sinemet CR 50mg/200mg 6×10 tablets and Sinemet plus 10mg/100mg 10×10 tablets.
