Optimise business performance with Check34

The NPA’s Check34 resources cover 14 KPIs. In this edition, we include an extract on the KPI, ‘Fees and drugs cost’

Endorsing

Correct reimbursement of fees and drug costs may depend on whether prescriptions are correctly endorsed:

  • Claim all fees correctly, for example, ‘SP’ for unlicensed medicines and ‘MF’ for measured and fitted appliances
  • Claim out-of-pocket expenses appropriately using ‘XP or ‘OOP’’
  • Check drugs are not blacklisted and appliances are listed in the Drug Tariff before dispensing
  • Check exemption declarations are completed in full to avoid prescriptions switching.

Submission

Remember:

  • Use red separators for broken bulk, expensive items, handwritten amendments and supplementary product information added by the prescriber, out-of-pocket expenses, specials/unlicensed products, or where the prescriber’s signature encroaches over prescribed items
  • Ensure EPS Release 2 prescriptions are submitted before the six-month expiry date
  • Dispatch the end-of-month submission bundle no later than the fifth day of the following month to ensure payment is received on time.

The NPA has produced a series of resources relating to each KPI to use alongside the Check34 platform. Other areas covered include:

  • Expensive items
  • Zero discount
  • Average item value.
