Independents reject hub and spoke

Most independent contractors believe government proposals for hub-and-spoke dispensing would negatively impact on their business, according to a Cambrian Alliance survey.

Cambrian's online survey found that 82 per cent of respondents thought more widespread use of hub-and-spoke models would damage their business, while 93 per cent said such plans would not benefit their patients in any way. Although 15 per cent of respondents said they had considered adopting the model, 92 per cent were against the government’s plans.

Chairman of the Cambrian Alliance Group Mark Griffiths said: “The message from our members is clear; they are worried about the government’s plans and the consequences for both their pharmacies and patients. We believe it is important the government listens to what independent pharmacy is saying. These are hardworking pharmacists who serve the communities they work in. Their opinions are built from their experience working as healthcare professionals and are vital to this debate.”
