Numark launches care homes training

Numark has launched a training package to help members deliver comprehensive medicines management training to care homes. The training incorporates the latest NICE guidance and is accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Mimi Lau, director of pharmacy services at Numark, said: “With heightened public awareness of patient safety and standards of care following a number of high profile cases, care homes are subject to increased scrutiny. The latest NICE guidance has highlighted a requirement for more rigorous training in medicines management and this has prompted care home management to ask for even greater support from our members.”

The package consists of three modules:

  • The supply of medicines
  • The administration of medicines
  • Legal requirements and responsibilities associated with administering medication.

Care home staff receive a trainee manual designed to consolidate learning that can also be used as a reference guide. A two-step assessment process with certificates includes a workplace competency assessment.

In addition to the written resources, a member of the Numark team can deliver the first training session on behalf of members, with the member present to observe and build their confidence.
