London LPFs win £185k training grant

Two local practice forums have won a £185,000 education grant from their NHS local education and training board to deliver a coordinated programme of 120 training courses to community pharmacies across 12 south London boroughs during 2014-15.

The collaboration between the South-East and South-West London LPFs will see accredited training delivered on topics that address local and national NHS priorities. The LPFs will work with the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education, local pharmaceutical committees and others to deliver a programme that will cover dementia, alcohol
misuse, diabetes management, respiratory and cardiovascular disease and mental health.

“Education and training opportunities for pharmacists in south London are hugely variable in terms of uptake, availability and relevance, yet the priorities across the various CCGs and local authorities are broadly similar,” said Finlay Royle, lead for SE London LPF. “Ensuring a robust education and training plan exists across south London will allow us to prioritise needs, increase participation and make more efficient use of resources.”
