Are you missing out on almost £4,000?

More than one in two independent pharmacies could be missing out on almost £4,000 in Quality Payments Scheme money, AAH Pharmaceuticals has warned.

Having analysed data from its online Quality Payment assessment tool, the wholesaler, which is part of Celesio UK, says that pharmacies could miss out on as much as £3,840 because they are not ready to meet five out of eight quality criteria.

In a statement released this week, AAH said: “More than half of pharmacies who have used the tool following the funding cuts announcement in October are not fully prepared and therefore not able to meet quality payment criterion, including guidance for the Patient Experience, Public Health, Digital, Clinical Effectiveness and Workforce criteria.”

Commenting on the results, Dawn Williams, head of customer development at Celesio UK, added: “This is a significant finding because it suggests that independent pharmacies could be set to miss out on their share of over £10 million. It appears some contractors are not yet prepared to fulfil certain criteria, such as the new asthma referral service and increasing the value of pharmacy intervention by utilising recorded patient data more effectively.

To make it easier for pharmacists to plan and set up the processes required to make Quality Payment Scheme claims, AAH has developed a ‘Careway Quality Payment Toolkit’.

“The toolkit comprises a range of new modules and support materials which will help our customers to meet the eight Quality Criteria and will maximise the value of funding provided to them,” said Ms Williams. "Getting support now is important as points that are not claimed at the April review could mean missing out on vital funding.”
